These are tough times for photographers! Many professionals feel the pinch in reduced fees, requests for much more additional usage, competing photographers everywhere, and the frustration of making less money while doing more.

Bill Bachmann will present a lecture with many positive & inspiring ways to add both the enjoyment and more lucrative methods to do the same photography. Bill has given lectures around the world and seen countless photographers experience more fun and find greater success in their careers. He will present ways to earn considerably more money and have the freedom to create images we all love. He also will give suggestions on how he markets his work to get bigger & better-paying assignments, both nationally and internationally. His new book, “Remember the Joy” is the perfect book to help every photographer achieve this freedom & financial success.

Considered one of the top-five stock photographers in the world, Bill is anxious to share his knowledge with other photographers. This presentation is guaranteed to inspire and inform. Bill’s enthusiasm, energy, and sharing will make the evening an enjoyable experience. His visual presentation, methods & experiences will motivate you to make more money in this slow economy with images you already have or will take. That alone will give any photographer incredible freedom to just create beautiful pictures that make more money. Bill has given over 200 lectures around the world and appeared on almost 100 TV talk shows. But he always looks forward to his best lecture — his next one!

Colleen Wainwright is a writer-speaker-consultant who started calling herself “the communicatrix” when she hit three hyphens. She spent 10 years as an award-winning TV copywriter crafting ads for brands like Wheaties®, Gatorade® and Jell-O®, and another 10 acting in them for cash money. Since deciding she’d blow her brains out if she had to sit through one more meeting about which way the bears danced around the cereal box, Colleen spends most of her time teaching other creative souls how to talk about what they do in a way that wins them attention, work and satisfaction.

It’s Time for Our Members-Only Annual Portfolio Review!

NEW YORK, NY – September 2011 – Now in its 6th consecutive year, ASMP NY will host its annual Commercial Portfolio Review for all ASMP NY members on October 11, 2011.

Over 30 reviewers from the photography industry will provide insightful, valuable feedback on photographers’ work. The New York chapter, ASMP’s largest, produces this event to allow emerging and professional photographers to have their work reviewed by experts in photography, advertising and media, and to receive direct feedback. It also serves as a launch pad for future collaborations and career development.

ASMPNY will host approximately 100 photographers at the review. Each photographer will have an allotted time to show one body of work to each reviewer and receive feedback about the work, the presentation, style, what’s working and what to improve. Photographers can see multiple reviewers in one evening, while also making contacts for potential work. Photographers can show their portfolios in print or video format.

This year’s reviewers include: Magnum Photos, The New York Times, Wonderful Machine, Mercury Lab, Billboard Magazine, Esquire, RETV and many more…

Time: Doors and registration open 6:30pm
Panel Discussion 7-9:00pm

Stella Kramer’s blog about the event:

http://sharpernewyork.blogspot.com/2011/02/conversations-on-fine-art-photography.html#comments

ASMPNY is honored to have three of the most commanding voices at the nucleus of fine art photography on this panel discussion about fine art photography.

- HOWARD GREENBERG – One of the world’s top photography dealers and owner of the Howard Greenberg
Gallery

- JEFF ROSENHEIM – Curator of Photographs, Metropolitan Museum of Art

- BRIAN WALLIS – Chief Curator, ICP, the International Center of Photography

Moderator - Susan May Tell, photographer and ASMPNY Fine Art Chair

All three panelists strive to create interest in and share great photography with the public. Yet their mission, because of venue, is different and that impacts what each does and how they do it. Topics may include similarities and differences as they relate to this, such as:

-Who is ‘your’ audience? How do you interest people to become part of it?
-The process of creating/organizing exhibitions: i.e. the length of time involved; chosen by committee or
individual vision; do market-place decisions play a role?
-Relationships with collectors, auction houses, critics.
-The importance (or not) of prints being editioned.
-Silver and chromogenic vs digital prints. Vintage vs recent prints.
-How ‘your’ paths cross and how do you work together (or don’t). are their rivalries? do you compete for
photographers’ work?
-Perspectives on work being done by this generation of photographers.
-The role of the internet (and all its electronic iterations) on our fine art photography heritage.
-How photographers become on one’s radar and the best ways for photographers to grow that relationship.
