Richard Berenholtz received his masters degree in architecture from Columbia University in 1974 and spent 10 years working as a designer for major New York City firms including I.M.Pei and Partners. During this time, his hobby of photography became a passion leading to three one-man shows of his b&w work in New York City galleries. In 1984 he left architecture to pursue a full-time career as a commercial photographer, specializing in architecture, landscapes and cityscapes. In 1986 he was chosen to be the official photographer of the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Foundation, for the Statue's centennial celebration.

Richard has had six books published: The first, Manhattan Architecture, was printed in 5 languages and sold over 50,000 copies. The second, Inside New York, was printed in hardcover and paperback, and is still in print. The third, Panoramic New York, is now in it's fourth printing. The fourth, New York New York, is the largest photography book ever done on the city, and is also available in a mini edition which has sold over 100,000 copies. The fifth is New York Architecture. The sixth is New York Deco which has been published in 3 different editions.

During the past 26 years, Mr. Berenholtz has produced what is considered to be one of the most comprehensive collections of contemporary photographs of New York.
